Winter vacation - February 2026
In our winter vacation in February, little snow and -8 was waiting for us. We are staying for 6 days now and it is always so nice to come. Really enjoying Lækur in winter time as well 😍
Winter vacation - October 2025
We use all our available time at our farm. In October schools take “winter” vacation for few days and we bring our families to the farm. Our first day, northern lights welcome us.
June - July / The eiderdown collection
Every year, our families gather around to collect the eiderdown. Here are some pictures of us at the colony. The third picture is of Snorri and Ingi when they were young along with their teacher Zoffi
May - The protection
Every year we begin in early May by protecting the colony at the same time as the eider birds start to arrive. Our main predators are foxes, Lesser Black-backed Gulls (Larus fuscus), and minks.
We maintain vigilance 24/7 while the eider birds are nesting. It is crucial that they remain undisturbed during this period.
In other parts of Iceland where such protection is not provided, bird populations have declined dramatically.
A documentary was produced about the protection efforts at nearby eiderdown nesting sites.
